Harrah’s Hotel & Casinos eventually purchased the boat, bringing it back down south to Lake Charles, Louisiana where it ran as a casino boat for a number of years before being stripped of all its gambling decor and abandoned for a larger boat. The owners had plans to scrap the boat, but at the final hour some folks up north decided to step in. From couples taking "Titanic" style flying photos, to the riders dancing to Motown music, the audience is as diverse as they come, and there is an overall cheerful vibe in the air. Enjoy first-class buffet meals while you watch live Motown Music from bands like The Prolifics, who play hit after hit of the world's Motown favorites. The Princess is actually one of the only venues in Detroit where you can still catch a live Motown performance. Sometimes you'll even find the staff dancing and singing as they clear tables of the savory prime rib.

Although the boat may have been built in the Mississippi Delta in the early 1990s, the Detroit Princess has been well received from day one. When researching the options to bring a boat-style restaurant to Detroit, we really wanted to provide something that Detroit that had been missing since the late 1980s. Claire and SS Columbia entertained Detroiters on the river, but they sadly were sold in 1991. Until the Detroit Princess Riverboat’s arrival in 2005 the riverfront felt a tad bit empty, and we have happily filled the role as Detroit’s premier riverboat experience ever since. The Detroit Princess Riverboat boasts an impressive 30,000 square feet of dining and event space. The Detroit Princess is perfect for site seeing or celebrating a special occasion. In 2004 we purchased the riverboat and the vessel made her first and last journey to her new home in Detroit. With everything there is to do in Detroit these days, one of the most unique experiences still remains on the riverfront–the Detroit Princess Riverboat. Onboard, you’ll have lots of dining options, including vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options, and multiple bars to visit with premium liquors, craft and domestic beers, and quality wine and champagne. The Detroit International RiverWalk is a picturesque promenade that traces the riverbanks.
You can also visit two UNESCO World Heritage sites, the Great Barrier Reef and awe-inspiring Uluru National Park, on cruisetour options that combine a multi-night land tour with a traditional cruise. Choose from three ships, including Discovery Princess®, for her maiden season in the region, as well as Crown Princess® and Grand Princess®, sailing 75 itineraries to 78 destinations. Detroit Princess Riverboat cruises are generally 2-3 hours long, journeying from Hart Plaza past the Ambassador Bridge, just past to Belle Isle, and back to the dock. Also, sit back and enjoy live musical entertainment all while you cruise down the river and go outside to see the amazing views of Detroit and Windsor.
Built in 1993 in Louisiana, this majestic vessel boasts a fascinating past as a floating casino known as the "Players Riverboat Casino II." In 2004, the boat embarked on a remarkable voyage to its new home in Detroit. Due to its size, navigating the Mississippi River was impossible, requiring it to be towed around Florida, through the inter-coastal waterway, and across the St. Lawrence Seaway to reach the Great Lakes. After a transformative overhaul, the boat was rechristened as the Detroit Princess Riverboat, heralding a new era of elegance and entertainment on the Detroit River. Evening cruises along the Detroit River are known for their breathtaking sunsets and there's no better vantage point to witness them than from high up on the decks of the Detroit Princess Riverboat.
Whether you're planning a wedding, anniversary dinner, corporate gathering, or birthday celebration, the space serves as an unforgettable backdrop for creating lasting memories. Imagine exchanging vows as the sun dips behind the skyline or hosting a corporate dinner framed by the majestic Ambassador Bridge – the possibilities are endless. Experience colonial history, charming Eastern seaboard villages and famed New England seafood when you sail Canada & New England with Princess®. There are also 10-day voyages between Boston and Québec and roundtrip 10-day American Heritage voyages where you’ll have the opportunity to visit Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown, as well as legendary Revolutionary War sites.
In 2025, Island Princess will sail an 116-day World Cruise – our longest ever. Lauderdale, or choose 2026 options from Sydney, Australia, you’ll have the opportunity to visit 48 dream destinations, from Singapore to Egypt, throughout Europe and Iceland, to North, South and Central America and beyond.
